Hop A Ride on the Atheist Bus and Other Some Such

The Atheist Bus

In Great Britain, the Atheist Bus Campaign launches today.  The campaign hopes to run 30 buses across London for four weeks with the slogan: “There’s probably no God.  Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”  The famed atheist, Richard Dawkins, is financially supporting the project and was quoted as saying, “This campaign to put alternative slogans on London buses will make people think - and thinking is anathema to religion.”

If Dawkins really believes that seeing this banner on the side of a bus will cause people to stop in the street and think about the reason for their own existence and whether they are prepared to stand before the Lord Jesus Christ on the Day of Judgment, then I don’t suppose he’s as intelligent as people make him out to be.

Well, you know, Jesus, I understand that the Bible says that everyone’s knee will bow, but you see I was in London sometime in 2008 and I saw this bus  … ”

The Photographic Expedition

Over the past few weeks, my wife and I have been editing the photographs from our “mission” trip to Haiti.  Since we are still film geeks, it has taken lots of time, but it has been well worth it.  We should be able to post a link to the portfolio in a few days.

The Born-Again Jesus Series

Sometime this summer I took an informal hiatus from the “Born-Again Jesus” Series.  In the series, I have examined what the scriptures have to say about Jesus being raised from the dead.  Since we’ve managed to get through our trip and a few other things, I’m ready to get back in the saddle and continue on.  Unlike Dawkins, I believe that true religion involves some good, heady thinking.  I would have restarted the series today, but I left my Moleskine with my notes in it at the office.

Faith as Entertainment

One subject that has been on my mind a lot lately is “faith as entertainment.”  Here in America it seems that our expression of faith is symbiotically tied to our entertainment culture.  For instance, we have passion plays, “Christian” theme parks, and even our own faux-cement wailing walls.  If you know of something like that - some kind of Christian-themed sort of entertainment - please drop me a line through the contact page.  I don’t know that I’ll write on it, but I may make it part of a portfolio (the wailing wall is coming soon).

Peter,
Nice to have you back in America and the blogosphere. Looking forward to hearing more about the orphanage in Haiti.

Did you notice the “probably” on Dawkin’s bus banner? Kinda of countermands what follows don’t you think? Like saying to a nervous investor, the stock market probably won’t crash… ooh, wait a minute, maybe not a good illustration.

I drive a bus in the beautiful city of Columbus. Our slogan is, “We’re the bus in Columbus” - what that has to do with anything I do not know. But when I read the slogan on the London bus this came to mind - There is a God, now stop worrying and enjoy life(Zoe’).

Thanks for the comments. It’s nice to know that some of the faithful are still around.

I’m praying the campaign backfires and the word “probably” causes people to stop and think about it for a moment because the reality is (Romans 1:20) if they REALLY think about it, they’re without excuse… God open their eyes!

Psalm 14:1 a
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

Proverbs 11:29
He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.

At least the bus company made some money out of the deal, wise move. No fools will care what it says on the side of the bus. The fact that the engine runs proves that their is a God.
Ever tried making oxygen or nitrogen or fossil fuel?

Greetings you wise owls.
